shanni 184 Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) (Also known as Harkon Defense) With special thanks to Crystal, Vienne & ggFTW for helping me complete this thread! Contents - click on the [links]! [1] An Introduction to Harkon Defense [2] Harkon Defense on LifeTO [3] The Different Modes of Harkon [4] Rewards [5] Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) [6] The Harkon Gallery! What is Harkon Protector? You might have seen these announcements going off every two hours or so, and may be wondering "what does this mean and how do I participate?" Well; Quote This is a reoccurring event for groups of tricksters where each trickster talks to Eclipse (using Mind's Eye), at a specific time to enter into a special room (Shadow Sanctuary) where you protect Harkon Statues from shadow monster attacks. For 20 minutes the tricksters must protect 5 statues from waves of monster attacks. If the tricksters succeed, they are awarded, if they fail, they get nothing*. The hint to succeed is coordination. (ggFTW, Harkon Protector) *Not entirely true. I will elaborate on the rewards later on in this thread! Harkon Protector is an event that strongly relies on teamwork and good communication. We actively use the LifeTO Discord to communicate with each other, and reminders are posted whenever the next Sanctuary is about to open / is opened. We are usually on Voice Chat, since all-chat does not reach across the whole map. If you are currently working on your guardian, here are some useful guides: - General Guardian FAQ by Almora - Card Identification Quests Guide - Nessie's Guide to Guardians by Nessie What is Mind's Eye? Mind's Eye is a skill that is only obtainable for those who have their guardians (Lv. 180+). If you would like to participate in Harkon Protector, this skill is a necessity, as the Shadow NPCs are only visible when the skill is used. This means that only Enlightened players are able to enter the Shadow World realms. The skill also enables Enlightened players to see monsters from the Shadow World. Players without the skill will not be able to see/attack Shadow Monsters* freely. How do I obtain Mind's Eye? After hatching your guardian, talk to Eclipse at the Garden of Skill Master in Megalopolis. She will ask for x1 P. Anemone Card and your Dimensional Key (don't worry, she won't take the one that teleports you to Megalopolis!) Completed the quest? Ta-daa, you should have Mind's Eye now! Now that you have Mind's Eye, you now meet the requirements to enter the Shadow Sanctuaries! What are Shadow Monsters?* They are stronger and much higher levelled than ordinary monsters. They are visibly translucent, as opposed to normal monsters being fully opaque. Here is an example of a Shadow Monster after I used Mind's Eye. Normal Pochis are Lv. 35. Do I need anything else? You might be wondering if there is anything else you might need that can aid you in these events. I have compiled a list of things you might find useful: Resurrect Scroll; self-explanatory - these scrolls allow users to resurrect after fainted. They can be bought from the Megalopolis Shop via Item Girl for 50k galders each. Scroll of Rejuvenation; these scrolls heal nearby players 50% of their health, and also heals yourself. They can be bought from MyShop under Use > Scroll on Page 3. They cost 50Pts for a pack of 10 (equivalent to 5k galders per scroll). Scroll of the Resolute; these scrolls prevent users from fainting once for 5 minutes. If the scroll succeeds in preventing faint, your HP will be at 1, and you will have to re-use the scroll again to prevent your next faint. They can be bought from MyShop under Use > Scroll on Page 3. They cost 50Pts for a pack of 5 (equivalent to 10k galders per scroll). LOTS of HP/MP pots recommended! Personally, I stack up on Hyperium Blue Potions. They restore 3500 MP, weigh 1 each and cost 200Pts for a stack of 100 (equivalent to 2k galders per pot). The Hyperium Pink Potions are the same, except they restore 4000 HP. shanni 184 Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) Harkon Protector currently occurs 8 times a day, every 2 hours and lasts for 20 minutes each event. Our server timezone is EDT & our Harkon Protector times differ from other servers.Since I am from the UK, I have decided to include my timezone too (BST). Eclipse only appears during the times listed below and included images of the mini-map of where Eclipse should be at these times also. Only the first 30 players will be able to enter the map (equivalent to 5 full parties - one at each statue). At the moment, we are averaging about 10+/- players per Sanctuary! Our busiest sanctuaries are Tapasco ~ Caballa Relics. Eclipse disappears after successfully defending the statues, or if a statue breaks within the 20 minutes of the event. The Shadow World will then close, until the next Sanctuary opens! (images from ggFTW, Harkon Protector) Key - Number of Harkon Statue - Number of players currently defending said Harkon Statue - Number of monsters currently attacking said Harkon Statue - How much HP the Harkon Statue has left. shanni 184 Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) There are three different modes of Harkon Protector. Players will not know which mode they are defending against until they enter the Shadow Sanctuary. There are a few things that help players distinguish which mode it is before monsters appear on screen, such as the text shown before the monsters appear. Shade of Chronos spawns when there are 03:40 minutes left Quote The assault will begin in 90 seconds! Defend the Harkon! Prepare yourself! When the battle starts the monster will appear and begin to attack the Harkon statues. Please protect the Harkon! You can reveal shadow monsters using the Mind's Eye skill Please defeat the monsters and prevent the Harkon from being destroyed! The Sense monsters' assault has begun! Focus on these! They like to sneak behind walls and hide in the corners, whilst attacking Harkon statues at the same time. They also use Armor Desctructor on the Harkon Statues, so that the statues take on more damage, thus breaking quicker. Werepot Ghost - Lv. 200, ??? ~ These lil things do no damage to the actual Harkons. They are just here to faint you all! Feel free to dodge them or kill them. All they do is explode and try to faint you immediately. Scylla of Charm - Lv. 500, Physical Weak, Magic Resist Gorgon of Power - Lv. 500, Gun Weak, Physical Resist [PRIORITY] Focus on these too! shanni 184 Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) Feel free to ask any questions below! I shall add them here if I think it might be a common question. Q: What is 'Blocking'? I hear this term at a lot of Harkon Protector events? A: This is when a player enters the Shadow Sanctuary, and stands by a Harkon Statue without refreshing Mind's Eye. Monsters will still hurry towards the statue, however, they will not attack the statue when a player uses their character as a 'blocker'. This means that players within the Sanctuary will have one less statue to focus on. However, this does not always work. Blocking is most effective during Gloom Mode, with the blocker stationed at Statue 3, as Statue 3 (arguably) spawns the most monsters during this mode. If there is more than one blocker, the secondary blocker is usually stationed at Statue 4, as it also spawns a lot of monsters in Gloom Mode. Yes, blocking could be considered as a bug, as it allows players within the Sanctuary to 'win' more easily, hence why some players do not like to use this method. They consider it as cheating. Despite this, players have used this method since eTO, and some may consider it as a secret 'game feature' instead, as the Developers of the official game never bothered to "fix" it. Blocked monsters must not be killed, as it messes with the spawns and makes monsters aggro, thus making them use their skills to attack the Harkon and other nearby players. Some monsters do get past and manage to get to the Blocked Harkon Statue, so blocked statues will have to be checked regularly by a non-blocker. Please refrain from using AoE skills when killing the monsters that get past. Use single-targeted skills, such as, Arrow Rush instead. Q: Why am I being yelled at for OHKOing (Shade of) Chronos? A: As mentioned above under 'Rewards' On 09/07/2018 at 8:16 PM, shanni said: Ultra Rare Drops Chronos Shard Note: Chronos Shard does not actually 'drop' like the other shards do. In order to have a chance of getting the Chronos Shard, players must have hit Chronos at least once before he is defeated. When Chronos spawns, it is strongly advised to not kill him immediately. Please allow others within the map to at least attack him once before defeating him. Only the players that manage to land an attack on him has a chance of obtaining the Chronos Shard. So, if you solo him, no one else will have that chance. Please be fair! Edited August 5, 2018 by shanni 2

Serushi 71 Posted July 11, 2018 Awesome guide, thank you for taking the time to write it out! Quick question though, which element is objectively the most effective for a buffalo at Harkon? I realize mixing AoEs is best, but, what attribute should be focused on the most?
shanni 184 Posted July 12, 2018 (edited) *you won't struggle with killing the mobs as much in the other two modes, so that's why i've chosen to talk about boss mode @Serushi yeah, a mix of AoE is great, however as for the most effective element -- despite the fact that gorgons are physical resist, they are 45% fire weak in boss mode*. i'd strongly recommend getting fire attribute for harkon. it'll honestly help out so much! you might not be able to OHKO them without it. the only down side is that you'll have to whack the mobs rather than AoE though... as for AoE skills, i'd recommend tempest strike. so, you'll need some wind attribute to do decent damage. yeah, it's a skill based on RNG, but it's at least a very quick AoE and can do a loooot of damage too. earthquake blade is extremely slow but does some hefty damage. in harkon, we need to kill things pretty quickly, especially when it gets super busy, so i'd limit the use of this skill. a sheep could easily use wind blade whilst you're still casting, which could get pretty annoying... so yeah, opt for quicker skills such as this tempest, or alternatively, just melee them. hope this helps! :) Edited July 12, 2018 by shanni 1 1
